Healing Your Tattoo

To ensure a good tattoo, the healing process is just as important as the application. Here are some guidelines for the healing process:

-Please keep the saniderm/dermasheild bandage on the tattoo for 3-5 days. You will notice some ink and plasma puddle underneath the bandage and that in completely normal, especially if the tattoo is colored or heavily shaded. If part of the tattoo becomes exposed, or the plasma and ink begins to leak out of the bandage, please remove the bandage immediately and proceed to the next steps.

-Once the bandage is removed, keep the tattoo clean with Dial Gold Antibacterial hand soap. Wash 2-4 times a day, especially if exposed to sweat.

-While the bandage is on, obstain from working out or any activity that could result in sweat getting trapped underneath the bandage thus irritating the healing tattoo.

-Moisturize with a dye-free and fragrance free lotion such as Aveeno, Cereve, or Eucerin after every wash and throguhout the day. Please do not use petroleum-based products like Vaseline, Aquaphor, or A&D as they repel moisture from the skin.

-Please abstain from harsh sunlight or submerging in bodies of water (i.e. hot tubs, pools, lakes, etc.) for at least 3-4 weeks. Make sure to use SPF when exposed to UV in order to ensure the longevity of your tattoo.

-If you have ANY questions or concerns during the healing process, please never hesitate to reach out to your artist for guidance.

Special Care for Certain Areas

Certain areas of the body may require special attention during the healing process. For example, tattoos on the hands and feet may take longer to heal and may require extra moisturizing. Tattoos on the ribs may be more sensitive and may require looser clothing during the healing process. If you have any concerns about caring for your tattoo in a specific area, please let us know and we'll be happy to provide guidance and support.
